If others run into this issue, try Steam Big Picture mode. PZ will prompt you to set the config you'd like on launch (you want XBox emulation) and it should "just work" from that point forward. Doing it through the game, especially for PS4 controllers on Mac/Linux is a massive pita.

This'll start a Steam enabled client, but for now that should be fine. Try connecting to Redboid in the Steam sever list.

It should be noted anytime I refer to "steam" in the file directory context, then it means the user folder. If you decide to name the user something else the directories change also. Something to keep note of. "Steam" is not the same as "steam" in the directory context as well. su - steam this will switch the user from root, to steam.
